A Look Ahead to 2021

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

What a long year this has been. While challenging, we continue to improve our service. By staying focused on our mission and genuinely caring about others, we continue to find solutions and have in fact grown stronger. I am truly inspired. I am deeply grateful for all the clients and partners who have placed their trust in us, working with us to create a safe environment. And to the Support Staff and Care Professionals at Broad Street, words cannot express my admiration for how you continue to go above and beyond in service of others.

While we remain vigilant in keeping people safe and healthy, even in the most complex situations, I am reminded why I first started Broad Street. It was from looking through the eyes of my dying Uncle, and those of my Aunt, coping with early onset Alzheimer’s and trying to make sense of it all. It was also looking through the eyes of the people that loved them. Their family, my family. That was when I realized this service was not just about identifying tasks off a list and scheduling warm bodies. This service was about people. Providing support for people is about relationships and shared experience. It is not something that will fit into a standardized form.

At Broad Street, it is our people that make the difference. It is the unique talents and capabilities of the individuals working together towards a common purpose: To make a positive difference in people’s lives. Whether it’s helping to manage complex health conditions or complex environments like COVID, we can still find a way to create a better experience and get the most out of life.

For this reason, we will be spending 2021 highlighting our people. To provide more insight into these dedicated professionals and how they make Broad Street a truly unique service. My hope is that it sheds some light on how these incredible individuals, when working together, accomplish amazing things.

As I look back on 2020 and everything we have worked through, I don’t see fear or anxiety, I don’t see chaos. I am instead reminded of a story told from everyone’s favorite neighbor….

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping’… Because if you look for the helpers, you’ll know that there’s hope.”
